Back when I worked in the restaurant industry, bitterly cold mornings didn't disappear once you walked through the door. The kitchen was also ice cold (as we didn't turn on the heat) and on top of that, I had to work in the walk-in, putting away and organizing all of the produce that came in each day. We'd turn on the gas stove in an effort to warm the kitchen, but even then, it took a while. So in an effort to get warm and also keep seasonal illness at bay, my co-worker, an eccentric, vibrant, and kind Jamaican cook who always looked out for me, would make what he deemed, "Jungle Juice". He taught me how to make it too and ever since then it graces my stovetop every fall and winter. Besides warming you down to your toes and all through your chest, Jungle Juice has all of the good stuff too. Consider it the chicken soup of warm drinks. The recipe is as follows:
